This whole project has been an amazing experience. The two of us became friends through Vimeo and explored a shared interest in timelapsing Yosemite National Park over an extended period of time. Our hearts go out to the family of Markus Praxmarer who lost his life while climbing Half Dome on September 19, 2011.
If you’ve ever visited California’s Yosemite National Park, then you have an appreciation for how absurdly majestic its scenery is. You also know how difficult it can be to encapsulate that majesty when describing it to others; somehow, adjectives like “breathtaking” don’t even begin to describe it.
For years, I’ve referred to Ansel Adams’ iconic photographs of Yosemite when describing the Park to friends who have never been. Now, I have this video to show them, as well. Feast your eyes on Project Yosemite — a time-lapse, HD tribute to some of the most jaw-dropping wilderness on Earth.
io9 spoke to the video’s creators — photographers Sheldon Neill and Colin Delehanty — about how the project came together.
“Sheldon shot a video called Cottonwood Lakes to Mt. Whitney, and I contacted him because I wanted to know how hard it was to backpack with a 6 foot dolly,” said Delehanty. “He convinced me it wasn’t that bad, so I bought one from Dynamic Perception and we planned a trip soon after. Without Dynamic Perception this project wouldn’t have been achievable on our budget.” The two continue:
For this project we planned to shoot on top of Half Dome at night because very few people would ever go up there at that time, let alone bring a 6 foot aluminum rail and their camera gear to do time-lapses. We wanted to create something that had never been done before. Something special that would put Yosemite in the spotlight.
For those of you wondering, the song in the video is “Outro” by M83, off the album “Hurry up, We’re Dreaming.”

KLM’s new worldwide campaign ‘Tile & Inspire’.
Social Marketing The Brilliant Dutch Way
Launched last week, and called to my attention by the ultra creative folks over at Zimply Zesty, KLM- Royal Dutch Airlines has taken social marketing to whole new atmosphere. Check out the press release below, the video and their Facebook contest. Brilliant!
The Netherlands is famous for its windmills, wooden shoes and Delftware – and for KLM of course. What do you get when you combine all of these things? KLM’s new worldwide campaign ‘Tile & Inspire’.
The campaign was launched yesterday. As part of the campaign, KLM has invited Facebook and other fans from around the globe to create a Delft blue tile showing their (profile) picture and an (inspiring) personal message. The tiles submitted by participants put them in the running to have their message placed on a real Boeing 777-200.
KLM cherishes its Dutch roots. And since Delft blue is an intrinsic part of the national Dutch heritage, KLM is already treating business class passengers to a small Delft blue house on every flight. A new house is launched each year on the anniversary of KLM. This year marks house number 91.
Delft blue tiles became fashionable in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century as a result of greater overall prosperity. They were often used in mantelpieces, kitchens and as skirting tiles. KLM is honouring this tradition with its new campaign.
The goal behind ‘Tile & Inspire’ is to actively involve KLM passengers in their journey. This connects to KLM’s ‘Journeys of Inspiration’ campaign, which was launched in 2008 and emphasises KLM’s ambition to not only transport passengers from A to B, but also offer a memorable flying experience. Since yesterday, KLM fans worldwide have been given the opportunity to create a tile showing their picture and a message and to share it with their friends. The ‘gallery’ shows just how cool it would be to see one’s own tile on a plane – and for some of the participants this will become reality!
You can participate in this campaign through www.tileyourself.com. The tiles will be studied in ten different languages and the chosen ‘tiles’ will be placed on a KLM 777-200 on 16 June. The ‘Delft blue’ KLM aircraft will be visible at numerous destinations around the world.
‘Tile & Inspire’ is in perfect keeping with KLM tradition. It is inspiring, typically Dutch and open – exactly what KLM aims to express with the inspiring journeys it offers its passengers. Discover here the Facebook contest page.

Older Man Younger Woman Great Weekend
An older, white-haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday evening with a beautiful young woman at his side. He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend.
The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring. The old man said, “No, I’d like to see something more special.”
At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought out another ring.

“I know,” said the old man, “But let me tell you about my weekend.”

iBoobs Is Back On Android!!! Reported by Phil Nickenson
Here we go, folks. Mystic Game Development made quite the name for itself with its iBoobs app for the iPhone, which got itself banned from Apple’s App Store in late 2008. Now it’s found refuge more than two years later in the Android Market, and it’s sent out a slew of e-mails to announce and celebrate. (And probably to poke the bear a little bit.) From the presser e-mail:
We recently decided to do an experiment and create iBoobs for Android, which is now currently available in the Android app market store. We think the fact that it is available on Android does show that the Android platform offers more flexibility and is more open-minded to app developers.
Dunno how much we’d call this an “experiment” — tawdry sex apps are nothing new in the Android Market. This is more of a marketing ploy. (Yes, we know full well we’re aiding it here.) And now might not be the best time to test Google’s patience. But short of an app stealing data or harming your phone, little has been done insofar as soft-core apps go.
iBoobs for the iPhone got rejected by Apple around two years ago. This was
huge news at that time as Apple made a clear statement with it to not accept
any sexy applications. This caused a big discussion about Apple deciding what
people can download on their phones and what not. Websites worldwide such as
Fox News, Gizmodo and Spiegel Online covered this news.
iBoobs Back, Now On Android
We recently decided to do an experiment and create iBoobs for Android, which
is now currently available in the Android app market store. We think the fact
that it is available on Android does show that the Android platform offers
more flexibility and is more open-minded to app developers.
For the Android version we also implemented some new features such as:

* An achievement system with 15 achievements
We also created a free version of the app to make it available to everyone.
